The Role
Workplace relations is a dynamic policy area, which is frequently at the forefront of national policy debates. The Workplace Relations Group supports the Australian Government’s workplace relations agenda through the development of policy advice, administering key workplace relations programs and engaging with government, industry and community stakeholders.

We have policy responsibility for the minimum terms and conditions of employment through the National Employment Standards, modern awards and protections against termination, discrimination and harassment that cover the employment of millions of employees and employers across Australia, with a particular focus on women, casuals and part-time workers.

We provide whole of government advice on the intersection of employment conditions with skills, training and education, discrimination and superannuation, as well as targeted measures to boost the participation of jobseekers and indigenous Australians. We represent Australia internationally and work closely with unions and employer associations to improve the working conditions for workers in our region.

We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated Executive Level 1 officers to assist with leading the development of these meaningful reforms and supporting their delivery.

Although most of these positions are based in Canberra, other locations/remote working will be considered on request.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Employment Conditions Division is at the forefront of providing high-quality policy advice to support the Government’s workplace relations agenda.

Duties and Responsibilities may include;
• Big-picture reforms to address complex issues such as the gender pay gap and emerging forms of work.
• Developing the government submission to the annual wage review.
• Leading international policy statements at the United Nations international labour organisation on behalf of Asia pacific countries.
• Working across government and with industry stakeholders on identifying opportunities for regulatory technologies to improve the usability of the workplace relations system.
• Developing and advising on legislation including contributing to high court cases
• Monitoring and participating in major cases in the fair work commission.
• Developing and implementing initiatives to support the way workplace relations group works including implementing a project management toolbox, embedding collaborative practices, enhancing our work with research and a strong evidence-base, and communications.
Qualifications and Education
• Desirable – experience in policy development and/or workplace relations.

Citizenship - to be eligible for employment with the Department, you must be an Australian Citizen or, in limited circumstances, in the process of obtaining it.

Security Clearance - our successful candidate is required to hold, or have the ability to obtain, and maintain a Baseline security clearance.
