We have an exciting opportunity available for a governance practitioner at the Senior Associate level. The position will be located in Brisbane and will provide the successful applicant with the opportunity to join our leadership team. The team takes a collaborative and supportive approach in the provision of legal services to a diverse client base consisting of unions, their members, and community/non-profit organisations. The Role

A unique and rare opportunity exists to join the firms highly regarded Industrial and Employment law practice at a senior level. Members of our IR/employment team have the opportunity to gain experience in diverse and challenging areas of the law as required by clients.

The position will require the successful candidate to work in a range of areas, including:

• Assisting major Unions with Registered Organisations compliance

• Union Rules matters

• Electoral reporting and compliance

• Compliance work for non-registered organisations and associations.

• Employment Law – including contract work, dismissals, and discrimination.

Representation and advocacy in large industrial law disputes. The practice is national, with work performed in all States/Territories. Our highly specialised team has an exemplary record of successfully representing organisations in both the Courts and in specialist tribunals. Working with us gives people great opportunities to hone their advocacy skills, as our lawyers often appear in complex matters rather than briefing Counsel.

The successful applicant will possess previous experience in union compliance/governance, employment law and commercial litigation and will assist in large, litigious matters. You will demonstrate a solid understanding of those areas of the law, be passionate, dedicated and have strong drafting, advisory and advocacy skills. You should also be prepared to undertake arbitrations, conciliation conferences and hearings.

The requirements:

- Exposure to Regulatory Compliance and/or Governance;

- An understanding of the operation of registered organisations/corporations;

- Exposure to litigation, preferably in the Federal jurisdiction;

- The ability to cope with pressure situations and to meet stringent time critical targets;

- Communication skills, both written and oral;

- Drafting experience and/or exposure to drafting large documents;

- Advanced PC skills, in particular Microsoft Word and practice management software;

- The ability to work in a collegiate model; and

- The ability to build strong working relationships both internally and externally as the role will require direct dealings with clients.
