Are you looking for a fulfilling and stimulating role in industrial relations or employment law?

South Western Sydney Local Health District is looking for an experienced Industrial Relations and Employment Law expert with well-developed advocacy and negotiation skills. You will have the opportunity to contribute to SWSLHD and NSW Health by advising on industrial, legal and employee relations matters. In line with the Award you are also entitled to generous Government benefits such as up to 12 ADOs per year, 17.5% Annual Leave Loading and Salary Packaging.

The role is located at Liverpool Hospital, Eastern Campus and enhances the current Human Resources & Industrial Relations Team. Working directly with the Senior Management and Executive Leadership Teams, you will be able to build relationships and provide expert and sound IR and ER advice.

What you'll be doing

The Senior Industrial Relations & Legal Officer is responsible for providing industrial relations and legal expertise, strategic advice and operational support on a wide range of employment and industrial issues, including employment legislation, award interpretation, policy development and interpretation, employee relations issues, disputes and education.

The Senior IR & Legal Officer facilitates a cooperative industrial relations environment within SWSLHD through building and developing relationships with stakeholders and a hands-on approach to constructive resolution of issues.

This role supports SWSLHD through negotiations with industrial associations on workplace issues, presenting matters on behalf of SWSLHD at various Tribunals, Courts and the Industrial Relations Commission, and developing industrial relations policy, procedures and resource materials to build capability and understanding.

How to Apply

To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the selection criteria as thoroughly as possible.

1. Relevant tertiary qualifications in Law, detailed practical experience in Human Resource Management and/or Industrial Relations, and admitted or eligible to hold an Unrestricted Practising Certificate in NSW.

2. High level written, interpersonal, and analytical skills, including strong conceptual and problem solving skills with the ability to respond creatively to issues raised, providing alternate acceptable solutions.

3. Experience in providing high quality strategic employment relations advice together with demonstrated ability to manage industrial matters including negotiations with industrial associations, advocacy experience, Award and legislation interpretation and application.

4. Sound knowledge of the NSW Industrial Relations system, and demonstrated experience in presenting matters before the NSW Industrial Relations Commission and Statutory bodies including preparing and presenting matters before tribunals and industrial associations.

5. Demonstrated experience in managing workplace disputes, grievances and conducting investigations.

6. Proven experience in leading employment and or industrial negotiations as well as providing sound advice on related matters.
