Ai Group Workplace Lawyers (“AiGWL”) is a legal practice wholly owned by Ai Group which provides specialist workplace relations legal advice to business. Its clients range from top 500 companies through to small businesses.

We have a team of approximately 40 advisers across the Workplace Relations team nationally. As an employee of Ai Group, a Registered Organisation under the Fair Work Act, you will have a right to represent Ai Group’s members in the Fair Work Commission.

About the Role

In this role, you will have a high degree of direct member/client interaction, including advising some of Australia’s largest businesses.

You will work in a well-supported team in a supportive environment. You will advise on a wide range of complex workplace relations and industrial relations matters including termination of employment, general protections, equal employment opportunity, employment litigation, Fair Work Act compliance, performance management; industrial disputation, enterprise bargaining (including drafting and negotiating enterprise agreements), workplace health and safety (WHS) incidents / issues, HR policies and employment contracts.

In addition to strong technical skills, including interpreting and applying legislation and industrial instruments, you will have a keen eye for detail and meticulous drafting. Experience in advocacy (including representation in industrial courts and tribunals) is essential.

About You

To succeed in this fast-paced role, you will be passionate about providing professional workplace relations advice and taking the lead in a wide variety of industrial and employment law matters.
You will possess exceptional analytical and writing skills and you will understand the key workplace relations issues that concern businesses of all sizes.
Your approach will be practical not technical and you will thrive on the interaction you have with members and clients. You will enjoy working with employers “at the coal face” and taking a pragmatic approach to resolving complicated and sensitive workplace issues.
You will also enjoy working in a collaborative and interactive way with your colleagues in the Workplace Relations Team, both mentoring others and developing your own skills.
You will have at least 8 years’ workplace relations experience gained from a well-regarded law firm, employer organisation or in an in-house legal / IR / HR role. A current Legal Practicing certificate (without conditions) is a must.
