Position Details

The Wage Inspectorate Victoria (Wage Inspectorate) is an independent statutory authority which enforces Victorian employment laws covering child employment, long service leave, and independent contractors in the transport and forestry sectors, and wage theft.

About the role

Reporting to the Team Leader, Wage Theft, Inspectors are appointed under the Wage Theft Act 2020 (the Act) to investigate the commission of alleged employee entitlement offences and, where appropriate, recommend criminal proceedings.

Inspectors are also expected to assist the Wage Inspectorate in its other functions including to educate both employees and employers on their rights and obligations under the Act, to monitor and enforce compliance with the Act, to engage in and promote the coordination of information sharing with other agencies and other related tasks, as necessary.

Delivering best practice investigation outcomes using the powers of an Inspector is key to an Inspector's success. As is interpreting rights and responsibilities under the relevant laws and following the Wage Inspectorate's policies and procedures. Inspectors are empathetic and can listen to and acknowledge the problems of others, they understand that good communication and engagement with stakeholders is central to getting successful outcomes.

The position may require irregular travel within regional Victoria including overnight stays. On occasion, you may be required to undertake work across other areas of the Inspectorate's regulatory functions.
