Do you have a background in Human Resources or Industrial Relations? Do you want to join a dedicated and supportive team responsible for ensuring employees in the building and construction industry are paid correctly?

The Australian Building and Construction Commission (ABCC) is looking for experienced candidates for the role of an Inspector in our Wages team.

The Role

The Wages Group is responsible for delivering education and compliance activities aimed at improving compliance with Australian workplace laws. The Wages Group also investigates allegations of non-compliance with Australian workplace laws. Key responsibilities include:

• Auditing employer records to ensure that building industry employees have been paid correctly
• Investigating contraventions of Australian workplace laws
• Educating building industry participants about their rights and obligations under Australian workplace laws.

They typical duties of an Inspector in the Wages Group include:

• Gathering and analysing information to determine compliance with workplace laws.
• Assisting with the delivery of timely and appropriate enforcement outcomes.
• Using Excel, undertake complex calculations of workers entitlements.
• Delivering exceptional customer service.
• Preparing concise and accurate reports to management.
About you

You will have practical experience interpreting enterprise agreements and modern awards. Your ability to provide advice and guidance around employee entitlements will be essential. You will add value through your analytical and technical skills, personal drive and initiative. You will be team-oriented and committed to achieving positive outcomes for the agency.

Our ideal candidate will able to meet the following selection criteria:
• Well-developed knowledge of the Australian workplace relations system and relevant legislation, including the ability to interpret enterprise agreements and modern awards.
• The ability to gather, analyse and present information concisely and accurately.
• The ability to actively listen, question and make inquiries when interviewing people.
• Strong judgment, including the ability to make early decisions and recommend courses of action.
• Sound communication skills (verbally and in writing) for internal and external audiences.
• Well-developed computer skills and demonstrated experience using Excel.

You must be prepared to travel regionally and interstate for operational purposes. You must also hold a current driver’s licence.
