Communications Policy & Campaigns Leader

Overview
This is the senior role in Jess Walsh’s office, coordinating her parliamentary and public-facing work, and supervising staff across social media/media, research and policy, and campaigns.

We’re looking for a person who is passionate about politics and change, with experience navigating media and political processes, strong research and writing skills, great social media instincts and a love of campaigning.

Role
• Strategic coordination of parliament, committee, social media/media & campaign work
• Writing speeches, articles and media releases
• Research and policy analysis
• Union, party and community liaison
• Resourcing the Senator in Canberra during sitting weeks
• Managing staff
• Other duties as required to support the Senate office

Key Selection Criteria
• Prior roles in politics, media, government, unions, social justice or related organisations
• Ability to navigate media and political processes to achieve outcomes
• Great research and writing for media, speeches, reports or campaigns
• High-level organisation and staff management
• Strong ability to build partnerships and liaise with stakeholders and organisations
• Campaign coordination experience highly desirable, including social media and/or field
• Ability to travel to Canberra and do some out of hours work

Terms and Conditions
The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2016-2019.
