Fair Work Commission General Manager Position

The Fair Work Commission (FWC) is Australia’s national workplace relations tribunal. It is an independent body that performs the functions set out in section 576 of the Fair Work Act 2009 (the Act). The President of the FWC is responsible for overseeing the work of the tribunal and its members.

Applications are being sought for a suitably qualified person for appointment as the General Manager of the FWC.

The General Manager, supported by administrative staff, assists the President in ensuring that the FWC performs its functions and exercises its powers under the Act. In this role the General Manager is responsible for managing the staff and budget of the FWC, and managing a range of functions under the Act. The General Manager also has statutory duties to review developments, conduct research and report to the Minister on various aspects of the functioning of the FWC.

The General Manager also oversees the work of FWC staff. This includes providing administrative support to the President and members of the FWC, undertaking research, providing conciliation services to support the resolution of unfair dismissal applications, assisting individuals and organisations access the FWC, and publishing decisions, orders, agreements and modern awards issued by members of the FWC.

The General Manager is an Agency Head under the Public Service Act 1999 and performs functions and exercises powers under the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013.

The position is a statutory appointment. The appointment is made by the Governor-General in Executive Council.

The proposed term of appointment is for up to five years. Remuneration is determined by the Remuneration Tribunal. The current total remuneration is $415,680 per annum. The position is full time and will be located in Melbourne.
