About us

At Sydney Trains our vision is to keep Sydney moving by putting the customer at the centre of everything we do. We work at the heart of local communities and integrate cutting edge technology to deliver efficient rail services which exceed expectations and support a rapidly growing economy.

The opportunity

Right now, we’re looking for a Senior Workplace Relations Consultant to work closely with one of the most industrially active areas of our business, during a time of significant change. This hands on role will see you at the front line of decision making and strategic planning process, with your advice being sought out early and often by the business.

Your feedback and input will help shape the organisation’s workplace relations strategy, workplace reform initiatives and will help foster an industrial environment where continuous improvement is possible. You will work closely with senior leaders, external tribunals and unions to advise, consult and negotiate with a commercial mindset.

What you will be involved in:

- Supporting managers through complex employee relations matters including disputes, restructures and disciplinary issues
- Advise, consult and negotiate with the business around change, taking a proactive approach to risk management
- Advocating at FWC and leading the organisation in conciliation proceedings
- Delivering strategic and solution-driven industrial relations advice to internal stakeholders on workforce relations issues including legislation, policies, systems and practices

About you

This role is ideally suited to a commercially focused legal practitioner who understands risk versus reward and enjoys finding work-a-rounds for issues that arise.

As a natural people person, you will have the ability to adjust your approach and interact with different stakeholders, working with them to understand their objectives and develop solutions which are informed by your legal expertise.

Ideally you will have experience working in a law firm or in-house legal team. You will have a strong grasp of employment law and industrial relations and you are eager to be close to the decision making in a fast-paced role.

If you are looking to join a collaborative and hard working team in an organisation that will challenge and develop you professionally … we want to hear from you!
