A fantastic opportunity to join nbn, Australia’s largest infrastructure project, as a Senior Legal Counsel –Employment reporting to the General Counsel, Security and Enterprise Advisory. You will be responsible for legally advising nbn on all aspects of employment law including in relation to: claims/disputes brought under the Fair Work Act and national anti-discrimination legislation; application of nbn’s enterprise agreements, contracts of employment; workplace conduct issues and grievances; investigations; workplace policies & procedures; and the application of the Public Interest Disclosure Act (Cth) and related legislation.

A bit about your role:

In your new role as Senior Legal Counsel – Employment you will provide strategic, independent legal advice and support:

to negotiate, draft, review and amend employment contracts;
in relation to employment related claims in all applicable courts and tribunals;
on employment related initiatives and projects;
on the application of nbn employment processes and nbn policies;
on general compliance and employment governance issues;
to work cross-functionally with various nbn stakeholders on strategy, negotiations, contracts, dispute management, investigations and litigation including with nbn’s People & Culture Team; and
to provide training to key stakeholders in the business regarding employment law topics.

You will also be required to:

brief, instruct and manage work performed by external legal counsel as needed; and
liaise with other external stakeholders, Government Departments, suppliers, professional organisations etc to understand and implement best legal practice in the area of employment law.

A bit about you:

To be successful in this role, you will be legally qualified (current NSW practicing certificate which has been verified by the Law Society of NSW) and have extensive post qualification experience (min 7+ years PQE) in employment law.

You will have experience in providing solutions focused, creative, high quality, high volume practical and commercially astute employment legal advice and support.

The successful candidate will have a strong ability to (in plain English) draft legal documents, give complex and succinct legal advice, and to successfully manage and resolve disputes.

Your strong technical skills and commerciality will allow you to add value to the business and solve complex legal problems. You will also be an outstanding communicator, capable of working autonomously and interacting with internal and external lawyers as well as business stakeholders at all levels.
