The Independent Education Union Victoria Tasmania is a union with a growing membership in non-government education. The union is seeking applications to join our industrial team with a position commencing late January 2020. Law Graduates or those starting out in Industrial Relations are encouraged to apply.

Duties:
• Representing members to resolve workplace issues and disputes;
• Providing industrial information and advice on workplace and industry-wide industrial matters to members and officers of the union;
• Bargaining, drafting and enforcement of Industrial Agreements in conjunction with organisers;
• Preparing applications to and advocacy in industrial and professional tribunals;
• Working strategically with the organisers and officials of the union to improve members’ lives at work;
• Drafting applications and submissions.

Selection Criteria

Essential:
• Ability to prepare and advocate a position formally at a tribunal, court, mediation or meeting;
• Well-developed research, analytical, problem-solving skills;
• Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and the ability to develop strategic relationships;
• Ability to work under pressure, prioritise and multi-task;
• Some experience in or exposure to industrial relations or employment law;
• Strong and demonstrable commitment to union values.

Advantageous:
• Experience in bargaining for industrial agreements;
• Knowledge of, and competence in, federal industrial law;
• A legal or other relevant qualification.
