As an Assistant Director, Workplace Relations with the Department of Human Services, you will be responsible for providing strategic advice, support business areas in the identification and mitigation of industrial risk, and provide guidance and strategies to support a collaborative and co-operative approach to workplace relations. You will influence and coach managers as they engage with employees to prepare and enable them to adapt to changes.

You will support employee engagement and workplace consultation processes for changes in a significant business group nationally, whilst partnering with union and employee representatives for all business groups to resolve issues without dispute.

You will lead and contribute to multi-disciplinary teams to ensure consistent expert advice, employee engagement, consultation, issue management and workplace relations services and related activities. You will manage the workplace relations functions including but not limited to legislative interpretation, consultancy, dispute resolution, policy development, union relationship and enterprise agreement. The Assistant Director, Workplace Relations will contribute to developing and co-ordinating the communication and engagement framework to support making the next enterprise agreement.

The Assistant Director, Workplace Relations exercises a considerable degree of independence and influence, with work performed under the general guidance of senior management. You will manage detailed projects or programs and maintain relationships with stakeholders, applying contemporary approaches to workplace relations, building on your experience within a large organisation or industry group.
