Overview:
Professionals Australia is a trade union and professional association representing the interests of members in a diverse set of professionals such as engineering, science, health, language services and management. Professionals Australia members work in organisations across the public and private sector in Victoria within the road, rail, defence, manufacturing, water and power industries. We advocate for all members to have the respect, recognition and reward they deserve in every facet of their working lives.

Principle duties:
The primary function of this role will be to build power within workplaces to collectively achieve the goals of the membership through:
• Development and identification of workplace leaders
• Recruitment and retention of membership within a specified patch of organisations
• Working with members, leaders and employers to resolve collective workplace disputes
• Managing individual workplace issues where necessary
• Enterprise negotiations across an array of organisations
• Attending and representing the interests of members at the Fair Work Commission where necessary

Do you have these attributes?
• A passion for workers’ rights and a strong commitment to union values
• An understanding that your work will always focus on recruitment and retention and growing our Union
• A strong understanding of legislation governing workers’ rights such as the Fair Work Act, National Employment Standards and Awards system
• Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
• Experience in enterprise bargaining
• A positive attitude and ability to work both autonomously and within a small team

Key Selection Criteria:
Essential:
1. A commitment to union values and principles, helping others and making a positive contribution to society
2. Current Drivers Licence
3. Demonstrated ability to negotiate enterprise agreements and practical skill in resolution of industrial disputes
4. Ability to lead and organise, build relationships, motivate and develop individuals of groups
5. Ability to plan and organisation work to achieve outcomes
6. Well developed written and verbal communications skills
7. Demonstrated ability to recruit and retain members and develop recruitment strategies

Highly Desirable:
1. Qualifications in industrial relations or a related field or equivalent experience
2. Experience working with white-collar professionals in a union setting

Conditions of Employment:
• Salary package commensurate to experience
• 12 RDO’s per annum
